Case study: Penicuik Estate
Penicuik Estate, a 7,500-acre historic estate ten miles south of Edinburgh, has undergone an extensive restoration programme that is as ambitious in its scope as it is meticulous in its execution. The estate has been in the hands of the same family — the Clerks of Penicuik — since 1654, and its designed landscape, shaped over centuries by successive generations with a rare combination of architectural vision and cultural ambition, is today recognised as a work of outstanding artistic and historic significance.
